On launch, Poland and Bison Grass in our Vodka

We have canceled out our management-by-vodka program as a consequence of Chuck P’s comment to our previous post. Thank you so much for that one Chuck, it made everybody here spill their drinks and gasp for air laughing. :o)

Poland: We’ve had Polish colleagues some time now and decided to open a Warsaw branch office which has been up and running as of a month ago. We are very happy about the speed of which our new colleagues are finding their way in and working with the code and the contribution by the Warsaw team is simply fantastic.

Launch: We’ve learned from our prior communication and will have to hold of a few more weeks before revealing the specific plans. However, it’s getting awfully close and we are very exited to give all of you who signed up access to the Polar Rose plug-in.

Come to think of it, our launch party should benefit from the attendance of excess volumes of Polish Zubrowka bison grass vodka from our late management program.
As the character Isabella says of Zubrowka in Sommerset Vaughn’s 1944 novel ‘The Razor’s Edge‘,
“it smells of freshly mown hay and spring flowers, of thyme and lavender, and it’s soft on the palate and so comfortable, it’s like listening to music by moonlight.”

Ahhh, we can feel summer coming! Thanks again Chuck…

I have only one question :). Is this product be released before or after AMD/ATI R600 :). Or we have to wait forever ?

  5. Cougarten Says:

  6. Cougarten Says:

sry if I was mean. But when?!

  7. whatever Says:

I’m seriously getting my doubts on this product. It would at least be nice if they updated the site on a regular basis so that people at least have a clue what’s going on.

  8. Archer Says:

As far as I am concerned, this is nothing but vaporware until I see it or a video of it in action.

  9. Cougarten Says:

I think Google will be faster
At least the recognize faces at all:

Actually, we dropped the “Buy a round of Zubrowka when you break the build” thing. It was just encouraging people to make silly mistakes in their otherwise so brilliant Java code.

Our current distraction is actually the product itself! It is SO much fun to play with it that we sometimes forget about those last JIRA items that make it a 1.0 release!

Stay tuned. We’ll be rockin’ soon:-)

  12. Slavcho Says:

    I will ask new question.
Is this product be released before or after AMD Barcelona CPU :) ?!

I think if you boys will delay this product more time. Google will release something similar very soon.

    P.S. I am an AMD fan :).

  13. Vincent Says:

Been watching this for a while, and I first thought and still do think that this is an experiment in “stringing people along”. There has been nothing here that Photoshop can’t do. Nothing that has actually shown us the technology is there, no code or in-depth explanation. Nothing verifiable.

  14. TheMan Says:

I am sick of you guys. This has been waiting for way too long.

    Release it or lose it.

By now I think it can only be a disappointment.

  15. John N Says:

Relax dudes. I saw the Firefox extension in action this past Friday in Amsterdam at the Next Web conference. While there were some things s that seemed needing final polishing, it was no doubt impressive enough to get me over to this site to sign up for the beta.

  16. Jan Erik Solem Says:

TheMan- I’m sorry you feel that way. I can understand that it is frustrating to wait but I can assure you that we are working as hard as we can. Bear in mind that we are a small team with a lot of work ahead of us.

We will make sure to communicate more on this blog as soon as there is something to report. For now we are putting all our energy in getting this out to you guys asap. In the meantime, take a trip to the beach, chill and come visit us again soon.

For those of you who have doubts on our existence (Vincent?), here is a recent picture of (parts of) the team having Friday beers on the roof of our office.

OK I believe you. But Google already had this technology not official but they had it. See this link : http://images.google.com/images?q=paris&imgtype=face
and just change name paris with what name you want and you see the face of that man or woman.

  18. Zizu Says:

So much time it cost…. So much problems, but WHEN BETA WILL START ???

    “Plug-in version 0.1 beta released”
Awesome, I’ve been checking your site for updates several times each day – I did again an hour or so ago expecting disappointment, but found the wonderful news instead! Now I’ll be checking my mailbox compulsively until I get that invitation from you :)

  22. LUSIU LOU Says:

    PEOPLE!!!!

YOU R LOSING YOUR PRIVACY!!!!!DO YOU WANT TO HAVE A SERCHABLE DATABASE ON YOU? SOMETIMES GOOD IDEA ON FRIDAY NIGHT ISN’T SO GOOD ON MONDAY MORNING. PLEASE ,READ THE FOLLOWING LINK

  23. Sterling Says:

I actually read most of that paper just now and I have to say that I sensed an overall theme going on there: people shouldn’t have to worry about repercussions for doing stupid things. Thats silly, you should be responsible for your actions at all time – and you are. If you get drunk and do something embarrassing you better hope its in the privacy of your home or that of a friend’s who you can trust not to post pictures of you with a lampshade on your head. That seems like something you should do anyway, not out of fear that somebody on the street will snap a picture of you with vomit all down the front of your chest. This is a wonderful tool that makes the internet that much more useful.

  24. LUSIU LOU Says:

Look , you people have to sell your product. That’s understandable, but sell it to airports, police, etc. You have no idea how many relationships will be broken, how many people will lose their jobs, how many trouble it will cause, and if even one person’s life will be broken, I don’t think your product will worth it.

  25. Sterling Says:

Let me clarify, I don’t work for this company – I’m a US Marine, so maybe my sense of justice overshadows my sense of pity for people who do idiotic things. Why should everyone be denied this functionality just because it has the possibility of bringing embarrassing things to light? You’re worried about relationships being ruined, why don’t we just ban the entire internet then – just pull the plug? I mean, I’m sure the internet has ruined plenty of relationships by creating more porn addicts, videogame addicts, cheating spouses, and on and on. You might reply: because the internet is so useful. How do you know that this technology won’t become incredibly useful, I can already see some obvious uses for it – but I can’t even imagine all the possibilities. I do see this as becoming something inseparable from the rest of the internet tools we use, like ebay or google.

  26. LUSIU LOU Says:

    How about witness protection program?

  27. LUSIU LOU Says:

And plus, dear Stirling, everyone has the right for privacy, cause it’s just simple human right.People are different and if you want other people see the track of your ass, it’s your problem.Let’s take youtube it’s loads of teenage crap there, but at the same time it can be even educational and entertaining, so you can chose to watch or not to. what I’m saying is i want my right to choose and i am able, I don’t want other people to decide instead of me.

  28. LUSIU LOU Says:

bottom line, nobody is perfect and even marines are making crazy stuff ;-)

  29. Sterling Says:

Like I said, maybe we should get rid of the Internet – or better yet – so that we can protect the witnesses, outlaw computer monitors and replace them with braille keypads – that way nobody is at risk, televisions are still a problem though – so maybe we should start registering cameras, you know – like firearms, so that only the responsible people (aka government controlled media) will have access to these dangerous devices. Are you beginning to see how silly your argument is? Its like saying that you should outlaw television sets because a tiny fraction of people are epileptic!

  30. LUSIU LOU Says:

    got massenger?

  31. Sterling Says:

I’d rather continue to argue with you here and get nowhere, but you’re right – we’re a little off the topic of “On launch, Poland and Bison Grass in our Vodka” :)

    desertfoxops on aim and yahoo

  32. Slavcho Says:

Wow it is true :) I will try it right now :)

  33. Slavcho Says:

But how I can download it ??? Where is this plug in ??????????????????????????????????

  34. Cougarten Says:

    Wow! You Launched!

    Closed Beta?

  35. Slavcho Says:

This is ridiculous, who you think will believe you ? You only claim that you have the technology. But I don’t believe you !!! You have nothing at all. I also can publish some random images of faces from google face !!!

What is that beta ?!? Is there someone in the world that can confirm your claims of this ??? I think not !

  36. Javier Rioja Says:

    arriba el vodka!

  37. Artur Says:

Slavco, I can confirm that I’m using the beta Firefox extension. The current version only supports recognition of people in photos, not the matching between one photo. So I can’t vouch for the full technology, but the extension as-is is a lot of fun to use!
