Jalbum.net on the Polar Rose Name Tagger

Our friends at Jalbum posted a description of the Polar Rose Name Tagger service showing users how the service works. The Blog post can be found here: http://jalbum.net/blog/entry/whos-in-your-album/

Jalbum Widgets

Examples of the Name tagger in action can be found here: http://nikolajn.jalbum.net/familypictures/ (just click on “Name Tagger” in the widget bar that runs along the bottom of the page).

    Hi!

I have a non-public jalbum-based family album with lots of family-and-friends pictures. The album is non-public via Basic Http Authentication (one needs to know a username and password). But I’d love to add a face-index to that album. Is there a way to do so?

    P.S.
I would not even mind if the index becomes a part of some global index, although the actual images the index points to would still be password-protected (ie hosted on my site).

  2. Igor, I suggest the following: Make the album public, then add the widget, then add name tags and then make it private again.
We only need to be able to download the images once. From there it is the widget making requests on polarrose.com.
In that case however, we won’t be able to update the feed, so new images will still be invisible. Hope that works for you. /m

There is a difference between photos that are uploaded and named thru Jalbum (they will show with facial square AND name) and photos uploaden and named thru my private website page (squares but NO names)
Is it something that I do wrong or does Jalbum (as partner) have different features
I would love to see the names on my private wegsite page too
BTW I really appreciate your work
    BR
    Joop

  4. Joop,

Is your private website created using JAlbum with the Nametagger widget as well, or are you using the plugin to name the faces in that album? Is your private album password protected?

    Hi Thijs,

I started to make a non protected Jalbum with Nametagger to try the service and widget, which I really enjoyed and after which I decided to use it on the photosite of the Historical Society to detect simular faces in our 10.000+ pictures
Our historical website is password protected and there I use the plugin, which is the only possibility I could find on Polar Rose
Looks like the widget is quite different from the plugin?

    Joop
    BTW are you Dutch speaking?

  6. Hi Joop,

Yes, the plugin is a very different beast altogether. It isn’t able to automatically suggest other faces with the same name. Are you using JAlbum to publish the photos on the Historical Society as well? If so, you really should try and unprotect it for an hour or so, to enable the Nametagger to do its work and then protecting it again. It is the only way for now.

    -Thijs.
